Chris is an international corporate and commercial lawyer with a particular interest in joint ventures and projects, and in negotiating and documenting commercial transactions. He has worked for clients of all sizes and locations, from start-ups to NYSE listed entities, operating in a wide range of industries – a specialist generalist.
Chris has worked in New Zealand, London and Dubai. He has worked for leading national and international law firms throughout his career - providing focussed corporate and commercial advice to senior management. He has worked for the two most highly regarded New Zealand law firms and also for Simmons & Simmons in London and Dubai.
Ten years ago he set up a practice based in New Zealand but advising on transactions, projects and commercial arrangements globally with local law input obtained as required. The New Zealand timezone (and UK overnight capacity) has proven advantageous when working with UK-based colleagues and clients.
Chris really enjoys acting for clients on a long-term basis. He acts for a limited number of selected clients. This allows him to become part of the client’s team, adding legal input and also understanding the commercial imperatives and timing. Chris believes that good commercial relationships between people in the team add to the fun of the job and increase the effectiveness of the legal function.
In his spare time Chris enjoys watching cricket - in particular the Kipling-esque triumphs and disasters that the Black Caps cricket team gets involved in. He also loves keeping dodgy old Peugeots on the road.
